Hi, thanks for dropping by and for your supportive comment.

Good point about the dmoz project. I guess we should be so lucky! But if the EU online public space grew that big, the sections would almost certainly be crucial.

I'd rather not cover the specific financing issue associated with my proposal. To begin with, that would involve publishing extracts from a private email discussion to which many contributed. In fact, I thought a long time before publishing this post at all, and very deliberately only used ideas and opinions which were unambiguously mine.

Besides, the issue is closed, and I respect the decision taken. There are other ideas besides mine, and other initiatives underway.

I have already suggested that our next round of conversation be help more publicly, so that more ideas can be harvested and the wheel isn't reinvented quite so often. This post was written in that spirit.

Until then, put out your ideas on your excellent blog, and make sure everyone knows about it by tweeting it. I don't think there's a specific hashtag yet, but including #euroblog and/or @bloggingportal should do nicely.

I am totally with you in not trying to make a new central eu-mega-blog, but to accumulate and present diverse writings. I can only underline the need for human curation, and like the idea of curated sections - I wonder though how the problems of the open directory at dmoz.org could be avoided, who have grown too big and become irrelevant at the same time?

"I did come up with some possible alternatives to finding the funds to give BP a boost, but for one reason or another we decided to not explore them."

Could you summarise these alternatives and/or the reasons why they were binned, so that I don't bore everyone with possibilities you have discussed and dismissed a long time ago?
